BROWN BROTHERS® Distribution Sponsored BTTC driver Aiden Moffat secures top ten finish at Knockhill

Following Aiden Moffat’s strong performance at Snetterton, the Brown Brothers sponsored driver was hopeful for a good result at his home race, at Knockhill in Scotland.

Aiden began the race weekend positively, with the 12th fastest time in qualifying, which was twice interrupted as the 31-car field tried to find a clear lap on the 1.2-mile circuit. Aiden commented; “There was good pace in the car, I probably could, or should, have qualified better but a tenth of a second makes a huge difference in BTCC. . I always race better than I qualify so was looking forward to getting back on the track.”

From 12th on the grid, Aiden was involved in the action from the moment the lights went out. Blastingoff the start, the Scot was involved in an early-race fight with Mat Jackson, in which Aiden was forced wide resulting in him losing some ground. Despite the contact, Aiden didn’t suffer too much damage but lost a lot of places as the tightly-bunched pack swarmed past. He added; “I made a good start but the car was loose on cold tyres, so Gordon Shedden got past me and then Mat Jackson hit me at the hairpin. That dropped me down the field but I kept pressing on and caught up. Then I got involved with Rob Collard who wanted to get past and that fight ran to the end. Thirteenth was not what we wanted.”

Aiden’s second race was all action, scoring points in 10th place: “I made a strong start but Collard pushed me wide and then I got stuck behind Tom Ingram. We made contact at the hairpin and then tangled again a few corners later but there wasn’t too much damage, meaning we were good for race three.”

In race three, an early safety car was deployed to help the Dalkeith racer. “We set off on cold tyres and the safety car enabled me warm up the rubber without having to defend places. I made a small mistake which let Adam Morgan by (in the sister Mercedes-Benz A-Class) and then I had a great battle with Andrew Jordan (Ford Focus) in which I had to defend like never before. I have never had to look in my mirrors so much!”

Aiden secured eighth place, keeping former champion Jordan at bay. The two ran nose to tail for 20 laps, Aiden never outing a wheel wrong nor offering Jordan the tiniest chance to get by.

Aiden’s exciting weekend, with point finishes and impressive racecraft being the highlights, bring him closer to the fight for a top 10 spot in the championship.

The next stop for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is at Rockingham, Northamptonshire, on August 27/28.”
