Aiden Moffat ends the season with a career – best performance at Brands Hatch

Last weekend saw the season finale of the British Touring Car Championships at Brands Hatch. Laser tool Racing’s Aiden Moffat was determined for a positive finale to the season and with three top 10 finishes, including his best ever 2^nd place performance, he definitely achieved this.

Initially, Saturday’s qualifying session was on a dry track and the car was performing well, leading to Aiden securing a 7^th place position in the qualifiers. However, unfortunately due to a decision on exceeding track limits, Aiden was moved to near the back of the line-up for the start of the races.

Fortunately for Aiden, weather conditions soon changed and the heavy rain caused problems for most drivers. However, Aiden remained focused, and in the final few minutes of the qualifying session he managed a time of 1:32.5, just 0.7 seconds behind the pole position. This led to a solid 9^th place position for him for the first race, a fantastic result finishing within the top 10.

The opening race had a positive start, and Aiden managed to work his way up the top 10 but unfortunately a number of championship contenders managed to pass. However, 8^th position was a great first race result for Aiden. Beginning in 8^th on the grid for race two, saw Aiden snatch 6^th position from Mat Jackson, resulting in his best result so far of the season and a win in the Independent’s competition.

Race three saw Aiden face some tough competition from reigning champion Gordon Shedden, however, he kept his concentration clear and managed to secure 2^nd place for his best ever British Touring Car Championship result, with Gordon securing 3^rd position and the Championship.

Aiden was ecstatic with the result as the car had been performing well all weekend and, although he had to battle for his 2^nd place win in the final race, he felt that this made the result even more special and was a great way to end the racing season. Aiden stated: “When you have a day like this, you want more race weekends rather than the season ending so I go into the winter looking forward to the start of the 2017 season”.
